Join us on this rare opportunity to cruise through the Corinth Canal and to discover incomparable ancient history on this fascinating, small ship, circumnavigation of the Greek Peloponnese. With an English speaking expert guest speaker on board and a comprehensive optional excursion programme available, this promises to be a true voyage of discovery.
Also included is a 1 night b&b stay at a central Athens hotel before the cruise.

Day 1: UK to Athens
Fly to Athens and transfer to your overnight hotel in the city centre (around 45 mins). Free time to relax and explore the city.

Day 2: Embarkation
The morning is free to relax at your hotel or for further exploration. Early afternoon short transfer to the port to board the Galileo. Enjoy a welcome drink and meet the crew and fellow passengers. Sail for Palaia Epidaurus. Evening arrival.

Day 3: Palaia/Epidaurus - Nafplion
Morning free to explore on your own.
Optional 3-hour excursion £50pp: Depart early morning and drive to Ancient Epidaurus, reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepius. We will visit the breathtaking fourth-century BC amphitheatre, in use again today. Return to the ship at lunchtime.
Afternoon sailing to Nafplion. Overnight at port.

Day 4: Nafplion/Mycenae - Monemvassia
Free time to explore on your own.
Optional 4-hour excursion £50pp: After a short walking tour of Nafplion, we
drive through the colourful city and the beautiful countryside of Argolis to Mycenae. Visit the remains of the ancient city - the Lion’s Gate, the Palace, the so-called Agamemnon Tomb and museum.

Afternoon sailing and visit to Monemvassia. Overnight sailing to Gythion.

Day 5: Gythion/Mani & Diros Cave
Day free to explore on your own.
Optional 6 hour excursion £60: Drive to the Mani peninsula and Cape Tenaro plus the spectacular Dirou Caves with their stalactites and stalagmites. We will then drive to nearby Areopolis for a short stroll through the town.
Overnight sailing to Pylos.

Day 6: Pylos/Nestor’s Palace
A full day to enjoy this picture-perfect seaside town on the southwest corner of the Peloponnese. In 1827 a fleet ofEnglish, French and Russian ships defeated an Ottoman fleet in one of the most important naval battles in history which led to Greece’ independence in 1829.
Optional 3.5 hour excursion £54: From Pylos we drive to Nestor’s Palace, the remains of which occupy a scenic hilltop setting north of Pylos. We then make the short trip to the town of Hora where a superb museum holds thousands of artifacts recovered from the site.
Overnight sailing to Katakolon.

Day 7: Katakolon/Olympia - Patras - Itea
Early morning arrival in Katakolon to disembark those taking the excursion to Olympia. Continue sailing to Patras.
Optional full day excursion £75pp: Early morning drive to Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. Guided tour and Olympia museum visit. Lunch in the town and visit the museum of the History of the Olympic Games of Antiquity. Free time before driving to Patras to rejoin the ship.
Afternoon sailing to Itea in the Gulf of Corinth. Overnight at Itea.

Day 8: Itea/Delphi - Corinth Canal - Athens
Free time to explore on your own.
Optional 3.5 hour excursion £52pp: We drive to Delphi, one of the most revered sites of the ancient world, built on a stunning mountainside location. Guided walking tour included.
This afternoon we sail from Itea through the amazing Corinth Canal to Athens. Overnight in Marina Zea

Day 9: Marina Zea
Disembark after breakfast and transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK. A further 1 or 2 night hotel b&b stay in Athens can be arranged or may be required at extra cost subject to flight availability and schedules.

MS Galileo

The Galileo at sea

The 48-metre Galileo is a classic steel hull motor sailer, which can accommodate up to 49 passengers in 25 cabins. MS Galileo has spacious and well-appointed interiors renovated in 2016. At the main deck, a lounge area with an American bar leads into a warm and elegant dining room finished with wood and leather. Outside the rear, shaded upper deck area has a bar and the ship’s sun deck is equipped with sun beds and deckchairs. The 25 guest cabins are located on Upper and Lower Decks, all with large portholes. Elegantly decorated, they have either twin or queen sized beds and bathroom with shower en suite. All cabins are fully air-conditioned and offer storage space, telephones (for internal use), mini safe, hairdryer and flat screen TV.
